Writer/producers C. Robert Cargill (Black Phone 2) and Aaron Koontz (Shelby Oaks), who both have new films opening nationwide in theaters, are among the panelists appearing at the Script-Com Screenwriters Conference on November 10-16.
Cargill, who has scripted Marvel's Doctor Strange for Disney is also the creator of the Sinister and Black Phone horror franchises. He started his career as a film critic on the legendary Ain't It Cool News website before finding success in Hollywood, where he is one of the most in-demand writer/producers in the genre.
Aaron Koontz's Shelby Oaks hits theaters this Halloween as well. His Scare Package franchise, along with Sorry About the Demon, Camera Obscura, and Revealer are streaming hits on Shudder and Koontz also co-wrote and directed the horror-western The Pale Door.
Also in the "There Will Be Blood" lineup at Script-Com are screenwriters Alvaro Rodriguez (From Dusk Till Dawn), Mike Mendez (Satanic Hispanics), and horror legend Dennis Paoli (Re-Animator, From Beyond).
Horror is one of the most profitable and reliable genres for Hollywood and in independent film markets around the world. Many major Hollywood actors, writers, and directors broke into the business through low-budget horror films. Cargill, Koontz, Paoli, Rodriguez, and Mendez will share their experiences in the industry and offer advice about screenwriting and horror storytelling to Script-Com attendees.
Script-Com is a week-long hybrid conference with virtual panels during the week of Nov. 10-14, followed by in-person events held in Nashville on November 15 and 16. The conference will also offer seminars on writing action, thriller, faith-based, and Christmas movies as well as a panel on writing for television. Saturday's In-person events at Nashville Film Institute include workshops on screenwriting structure and low-budget filmmaking, an awards dinner, a table read and a film festival, followed by a taping of the streaming series, Page 2 Screen on Sunday at the NECAT studio in West Nashville.
Tickets are on sale at www.ScriptCom.org, with discounts available to members of the Tennessee Screenwriting Association ("TSA").
The Script-Com Screenwriters Conference is sponsored by the Tennessee Screenwriting Association in partnership with Tennessee Entertainment Commission, Nashville Film Institute, and NECAT.
